I really like my job.  Over the last few years there have been many changes.  But looking back, I have been moving into work and roles that are more toward engineering than not.  And I like that.  Recently, however, I have had some additional roles, while interesting, have been requiring more meetings, as well as more meetings, and even a few additional meetings as well.  This has been requiring more time as well.  I have been putting in more hours more often.  I still enjoy my job, but it was easier before.  But I fell like I am accomplishing more than ever, so that is a good thing.

I am thinking about this because of the readings for the week.  One section in particular stood out.  In Romans Chapter 6 verse 20, it reads ”For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness.”  And that is really true.  When we give in to our sinful nature, it is usually easier, maybe even more fun.  If we don’t have to worry about righteousness, life is easier.  And the world will be right there helping and encouraging.  But if we read on, we find that all is not what it seems.  The Chapter continues, “21 But what fruit were you getting at that time from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.  22 But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life.  23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  Well that’s a bummer isn’t it?  The whole death thing and all.   But that just shows God’s love for us.  He is giving us the straight scoop, no sugar-coating.  The wages of sin is death!  Does that mean must always work, that we can never have fun, or relax, or go on vacation?  No way.  But it does mean we have to do the hard work of righteousness in those things.  And it is hard sometimes.  At least I find it so sometimes.

But if the hard work brings us closer to God, isn’t it worth it?
